Changes to English Heritage

English Heritage to be Reconfigured

“The government is supporting the creation of a new charity to run the National Heritage Collection”, so says the consultation document English Heritage New Model: Consultation. In essence it means splitting  English Heritage in two. One element would take over the management of all the properties currently in their care and would be named English Heritage. The other, named Historic England, would inherit all their other functions; in particular their involvement in the protection and designation of heritage assets such as listed buildings, and in their research and recording . The government would make £80 million available to English Heritage to be used to put the properties in good order. After 2023 they would be expected to be self-funding.
